Sucker rods

Motovilikha Plants Corporation has been producing sucker rods from high-grade steels with high performance characteristics for more than half a century. The following specialized equipment of the leading world producers is used for manufacture of sucker rods:

rod heads are forged at the automated line ETCHELLS (England), providing automatic control with feedback of heating temperature and of bar straightness. This eliminates the influence of human factor thus ruling out the possibility of defect occurrence across the metal structure, i.e. overheat and burn.

heat treatment of the forged bar is performed in the conveyor furnaces SURFACE COMBUSTION (USA), providing consistency of mechanical (strength) characteristics and high straightness of the rods owing to the original design of the heating system, active control of temperature and rotation of the rod when it goes through the furnace area and the cooling table;

shot peening of the rod surface is executed in the installation ESG-DL-XS383 (Austria). The technological modes, developed by the well-known company Wheelabrator Allevardensure optimum level of residual compression stresses, favorable for service under cyclic loading conditions;

machining of the rod ends and thread rolling are performed on the system STEZI (Germany) according to the advanced technological scheme “fixed workpiece - moving tool” This ensures a minimum value of rod pin and body misalignment.

parameter control is carried out on special checking tables, master gages of PMF INDUSTRIES (USA) - latest calibration in the NPL (England);

incoming inspection of the bar is carried out on the ultrasonic test units (diameter, length, local surface defects, inclusions, metal structure) designed and made at the State Technological University in Izhevsk.;

the required straightness of the bar is achieved on the 7-roll high-accuracy straightening machine.

 Sucker rods and polished rods are intended to transmit movement from the surface drive to the deep well plunger and screw pumps. Meet Russian and international standards requirements. The certificates of GOSSTANDART of RF and of the American Petroleum Institute (API) are available.

Sucker rods and polished rods of D spec. Class are designed for service in more severe conditions and have a higher fatigue strength in corrosive-active medium. The used method of hardening is heat treatment with subsequent surface shot blasting. The polished rods can be additionally covered with corrosion-resistant chromium coating. All rods are manufactured on the up-to-date foreign and home equipment and are made of high-grade alloy steels melted in the electric furnace. In the process of production the bar passes full ultrasonic incoming inspection and the finished rods are subjected to comparative fatigue test in a corroding medium according to a special procedure.

News for customer:

  • we are ready to supply sucker rods with higher mechanical properties (strength figures 1.4 times higher than the quantity-produced rods);
  • we are ready to supply on order of the customer nine-meter sucker rods and rods of category K/D from high-alloy corrosion-resistant bar;
  • on order of oil-fielders the heavy sucker rod has been designed and put into production, it serves to create “heavy bottom” and to increase stability of rod string operation in curved wells and in wells with viscous oil;
  • hollow sucker rods made of hollow all-metal bar without using welding are put into production, they are intended for dose pumping of solvents, inhibitors and de-emulsifiers to the well pump.
